Hey, y’all! I am Reinn, an ACE-certified Personal Trainer, Inspirational Speaker as well as a Guest Essayist. Allow me clear up the name of my business. “Mzfit” is not a play on “Ms. Fit” (ubiquitous and presumptuous); it is a misspelled “misfit”, which I have been all my life. The formal definition of a “misfit” is “a person who is not suited or is unable to adjust to the circumstances of his or her particular situation.” All that means is that the person does things their way; they do not try to walk in the same footsteps as everyone else. And that is how I do life; my way. I take much pride in being a misfit and you should too!
I possess over twenty years of experience utilizing fitness as a way of coping with Rheumatoid Arthritis, a progressive autoimmune condition for which there is no cure. When I was 16 years old, a podiatrist predicted that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 35 years old. I proved that podiatrist incorrect and continue to be nowhere near the need for a wheelchair. Yes, I do have days where I do not feel so well and I must slow down for a period. However, I never stop which is the key. I was not active my entire life in order to manage this disease; I simply enjoy sports and challenging myself.
I decided to become a Certified Personal Trainer after I had a bilateral total knee replacement. I found that many trainers (the one that I had at the time, in particular) are ill-equipped to work with a client whose body may not be perfect or work the way that most people’s bodies work. Many trainers only choose to work with clients who are completely healthy, as that is easy. This annoyed me and I don’t do easy. I chose to become a Certified Personal Trainer in order to work with those clients who are like myself; they desire to increase their strength, endurance and range of motion in order to increase their quality of life and, possibly, their mobility. There are also clients who are intimidated by the large, impersonal institutions and prefer the familiarity of their own home. Of course, I do work with clients who have no issues as well!
I do not do what I do in order to become monetarily wealthy; I do it because I absolutely love it. When I work with a client, that client captures 100% of my attention. The relationships that come from Certified Personal Training are priceless. I can be tough but also empathetic; I want my clients to succeed! My personality is a mix of humor and sarcasm; one must have fun and cannot take life too seriously. Leading a healthy lifestyle can be fun and incredibly empowering.
I will walk beside you on your journey.
